Our Full Story
Born from years of shared winters, international experience and the collective knowledge of Niseko’s backcountry community, this project brings together clear, accessible information for riders who want to explore the mountains with confidence, awareness and a deeper connection to the terrain.
What started as a small initiative among friends, riders and instructors slowly became something more meaningful—shaped by years of shared winters, early‑morning storm cycles and the constant learning that comes from moving through the mountains together. Over time, as we spent season after season riding Niseko’s terrain, travelling internationally, studying different snowpacks and listening to the experiences of other backcountry communities, we realised how valuable it would be to bring all this collective knowledge into one clear, simple and useful place. Much of what we share comes not only from our own journey, but from publicly available reports, long‑standing local practices, educational resources and insights generously exchanged by riders who care about safe, responsible backcountry travel. We don’t claim ownership of everything—our role is to organise, refine and centralise information so that anyone stepping into the Niseko Gates can access it quickly and understand it easily. At the heart of this project is something personal: a genuine wish to help riders enjoy powder days with confidence, to make better decisions in the backcountry, and to move through Niseko’s terrain with greater awareness. It’s a blend of experience, community and shared passion—kept alive season after season.
