Terrain features
Lower East Ridge features open bowls, natural gullies, ridgeline cornices, and occasional small drops that form playful yet technical terrain. The upper section remains fully open with no trees, offering broad visibility and clean lines before transitioning into more defined features lower down.
Description
Opens onto the lower East Ridge beneath Hirafu Peak, providing direct access to open powder fields, flowing gullies, and smooth lines that lead naturally into Hanazono’s slopes. It tends to get busy on storm mornings due to the quick approach, but the zone sits directly beneath avalanche paths from the upper ridges, making timing, awareness, and snowpack assessment essential before dropping in.

Expert tips
Ideal on deep powder days thanks to its minimal approach. Staying high on the traverse is key to keeping momentum and reducing exposure to steeper overhead slopes. Smart line choice and efficient movement help maintain both safety and access to the best snow.
How to get in
Access starts directly from the upper drop-off of the King #4 chairlift, entering just to the right when facing the peak.
How to get out
An early exit to skier’s right leads toward the base of the Hanazono #3 lift for a quick return. Going all the way to the end drops you onto a cat track that requires a 15-minute uphill walk to reconnect with the resort.
